Combat range is a map mechanic in For The King.
Description[]
Prior to a character initiating combat with an enemy in the Overworld, a combat range overlay is displayed on the map. This overlay is demarked with red hexes and shows which characters or enemies will be involved in the upcoming battle. Characters within this hex range will take part in combat regardless of where they are (e.g., in a town).*
Depending on the lay of the realm, the initial base size of combat range can vary. Weather can also have an effect.
*Care should be taken when drawing other characters into combat, as this could potentially pull them out of the air balloon. If this happens, the balloon will remain afloat in the sky, unoccupied, with no way to retrieve it or get back inside. This is a known bug and unfortunately there is no current known workaround.
Support Range[]
Some characters may have the ability to join in combat from farther away than normal with the support range skill. This effect is noted on the map with orange hexes.
